Pantry Organization Ideas
Over the years the organization of my pantry has changed many times. It has changed as my family needs and diet has changed, they have grown, and I have learned what works best for us and myself. I have tried many different pantry organization ideas that have worked and have failed. Working through what failed is how you find out what it works best. Pantry organization ideas with a corner food pantry made organization quite challenging but are very doable with a trial and error.
With my current pantry organization, I find that it is more functional, streamlined and budget friendly. I also wanted to have a friendly kitchen for my three boys, where they will be able to find things easily and they do not feel like everything is breakable in the pantry.
Pantry Organization Tips
- Making a shelf that was eye level for them to reach and find a snack when they are running out the door.
- Placing items that you do not use on regular bases in the corners of the pantry like baking (or out of reach) to save space for items used on regular bases such as condiments.
- Create a pantry layout of how you would like items placed within your pantry. Do not be afraid to switch it up! I know I get stuck in thinking something as to remain the same old same old.
- Take advantage of your space, especially if you have a walk-in pantry. Use the space at the top, a bottom of your pantry to your advantage. Place can goods, bottled waters in a nice crate, bin or basket at the bottom of your pantry. Place appliances or paper goods at the top of your pantry. Since I love my appliances and do not use them every day. I chose to place the securely at the top.
- Purchase different types of jars, bottles or containers based on how you use them. If your family loves cereal and goes through it quickly, a kid-friendly, large, seal-tight and easy to remove bottle would be ideal for a growing and large family.
- Utilize the space on the door as well. Search for a pantry door organizer at your local thrift store or invest in one. They are a life saver for quick to grab items. A shoe organizer with pockets can work just a great.
- Add cute decor to keep your pantry interesting and nice to look at. Such as cute signs, vases or pitchers with flowers or greenery (if there is room in your pantry).
- Use labels for easy discovery of an item
- Remove expired foods and items that can be placed elsewhere. Such as Tupper ware, party supplies, water bottles or etc. When I removed these items I had more room to grow in the future for your food pantry.
- Make a list of improvements that you would like to make throughout your space. I find this useful because life gets so busy and we forget about the little things that mean the most to us in order to have the best function in our lives.
- In order to keep your pantry tidy, keep a daily check on it and place items back in their proper assigned place and clean up messes right away.
