Every year switching up our living room’s fireplace mantel Christmas decor, just a little bit to give it a different look without breaking the bank is my soul’s mission. I really enjoy decorating the mantel for different seasons and Christmas is that season to go all in.
I want to share some of the tips of how just making a few changes to your last years’; decor to the current Christmas mantel, garland, and fireplace a fresh look.
Make Small Changes
To begin with, changing out the little things can give the Christmas mantel a new refresh look and feel. One way that is very easy on the pocketbook, is purchasing new initials for each family member’s Christmas stocking. Over the years I have found initials at my local Dollar Tree and Walmart for .98 cents each.
Adding lights to the garland or wreath on the mantel is inexpensive and makes a huge impact. Twinkling lights were added to the garland and wreath this year. Instead of using them inside of my Christmas tree adding them to the fireplace garland gave the mantel a cheery and festive look. Also, I was able to reach them easier to turn them off and on. LOL!
Painting will definitely save coins in the bank account! If you have some old spray paint or chalk paint laying the house a coat of that new paint on older Christmas decor will certainly give this year’s DIY fireplace decor a new look.
Using ivory chalk paint by Waverly gave my stocking holders a brand new look. The original colors were green and black. I could not find all-white ones at the time at Target’s Bullseye’s Playground. So painting them was the next best thing!
Move Things Around
Moving things around makes a huge effect if we realize it or not. Taking away less of something that we had the previous year really does make it brand new.
Moving the Santa burlap bag (from Dollar General, they have them every year) to the left instead of the right and placing it right by itself gives the bag its own spotlight.
Changing up the pattern of your garland does wonders for the aesthetic of the fireplace. To create this look using command hooks are key and makes like so much easier.
Switching out the floral picks from the Christmas tree or another decor piece in your home to the fireplace mantel Christmas decor.
Huge Impact Item
Purchase one item that will make a huge impact! That item should change the look and feel of your space. It should also be a conversation starter, piece.
This year I wanted this trio of Christmas trees from Walmart. I originally wanted them for the entryway but they looked so well on top of the mantel.
Another year, we were in need of new stockings for the family since we had a new addition to our family. I took advantage of Biglot’s 20 percent off sale to grab 5 stockings for our family. The quality of the stockings upgraded the look of the fireplace.
