One of my favorite areas to decorate for the seasons and holidays is the mantle in our home. When we bought our house 14 years ago, adding a fireplace as part of our home package was beyond our budget. However, our Realtor suggested we could always purchase an electric fireplace later.

I couldn’t wait to find the perfect one! Eventually, I found one I loved at Big Lots (though I’m unsure if they still sell it). As an interior design student, I often think about how amazing it would be to have this fireplace built into the wall.
I even created an inspiration board for a similar fireplace, hoping it helps you find one that fits your dream home.
In this video, I share how I styled our mantle for the fall season. I used many items I’ve collected over the years. Building up your own collection of decor may take time, and that’s totally fine!
The key is to choose items that you genuinely love. Before you know it, your collection will grow, and you’ll have plenty of options to mix and match. Remember, it’s easy to become overwhelmed with too many choices, so take your time and enjoy the process!
The inspiration board includes many decor pieces; you can choose some or all but aim to select an odd number. Displaying an odd number of items helps create a natural flow, as your eye moves smoothly from one piece to another rather than bouncing back and forth in visual chaos. This balance leaves the space feeling more complete and at rest.
While I love pillows, if you have kids like I do, you know they usually end up on the floor! Plus, they can take up a lot of space. That’s why I prefer seasonal pillow covers. They allow for more flexibility with style, color, and price, and they also save storage space. Using pillow covers and inserts is a game changer. My favorites offer soft plush-down inserts that hold their shape and feel luxurious.
I also can’t recommend these tufted recliner chairs from Walmart by Better Homes and Gardens enough. I initially fell in love with their look and color, but they turned out to be incredibly comfortable, too! These chairs don’t lose shape and always feel supportive. To maintain their fresh appearance, I sprayed them with Scotch Guard, and they still look as good as new.
