Welcome to our Christmas home tour of 2020, with home decor for the season. Decorating for Christmas is always fun and exciting with all of the twinkling lights. In this post, I am sharing a glimpse of our 2020 Christmas Home Tour and all of our home decor ideas.
Every year I try to challenge myself to create a different feeling and vibe from what I have used the previous year as far as Christmas decor. One of my favorite spots this year was decorating our mantel. I really wanted a large Christmas picture above the mantel but this worked out really well.
For more details about the mantel, I have more details in this post: How To Create A Beautiful Christmas Rustic and Modern Mantel Fireplace Decor On A Budget.
MAKING SMALL CHANGES

Slipcovers over your pillows are a great way to switch out your seasonal decor or any time of the year. They also save space, instead of having many different types of pillows; having the slipcovers to change out the look of your throw pillows works great. If your throw pillows become flat like mine having pillows inserts is very convenient. I really like how they are interchangeable, easy to fluff, and really soft.
DECORATING WITH CHILDREN
Having children in some of the spaces can really take a real beating. One of them is the coffee table and our couches. This year I threw on slipovers that I purchased from Amazon and when they get dirty I just throw them in the washing machine. Our coffee table, which we had for over 10+ years needed a new fresh coat of ivory chalk paint for the Christmas season. To keep things fresh I use a magic eraser to keep surfaces clean and scotch guard to keep rugs, pillows, and couches looking nice.
One of the exciting things about decorating for Christmas is combining old and new decor to bring in an entirely new look and feel for that particular year.
This was one of my favorite spots in the house decorating the staircase. Ribbon, lights, picks, and ornaments are a great combination to refresh an old, tired garland.
CUSTOM DIYS
If you want to learn how to make a bow like a PRO be sure to check out the video down below; one of my favorite places to purchase ribbons is Michaels. Make sure to stay posted to Michaels’s sale ad, when they are marked down to 60 -70 percent off. Be sure to shop early to get the best selection.
ADDING EXTRA TOUCHES
Next, when I have some extra time during the holiday season, decorating the kitchen is always fun and festive. I love picking up seasonal dish towels and oven mitts from Dollar Tree and Dollar General. They always have cute themes to choose from and the price ranges from $1 to $2. So affordable!!
Decorating the kitchen I found out that it is best to just add a few touches on the countertops in order not to create clutter and difficulty preparing a meal.
Decorating the top of the fridge is always an option and maybe too much for others. What I like about decorating on top of the fridge, is that it’s frequently dusted, cleaned, and unnecessary clutter is not placed on top of the fridge. A plus for helping combat clutter, keeping it clean, and decorating your home!
ADDED CONVENIECES
In addition, creating a baking cart comes in handy during the holiday season. Having everything all in one place and ready for family baking time will be less of a fuss and more time spent together having fun.
Adding a few touches of the holidays with ribbon and flowers makes decorating and changing out the season easy and convenient.
SWITCH IT UP
Don’t be afraid to try and place items in different places to switch up the look and feel. This year I placed the little white houses in this dough bowl instead of a tiered tray that I normally do each year. Another way to decorate with the little white houses is to place them above your mantle.
Also, the garland surrounding the little white houses was used as a centerpiece garland accent for a tablescape. Try to think outside of the box and take things apart if you can use them elsewhere in your everyday and seasonal decor.
Decorating our everyday eating table within minutes by mixing and matching items. Use items you have already had on hand from previous years, a few new, and DIY items will give your home a custom look.
GIVE EVERYONE A SPACE
I like the house to always reflect everyone in the household not just my ideas and inspirations. I want my children to feel free to have a place to express their creativity and not be afraid to touch anything in the house.
My youngest son loves the little Christmas villages and Dollar Tree has all of the items to create your very own. So over the years, we have been collecting the little houses, cars, and people in the village.
A quick tip for enhancing your little village by checking out the after-Christmas sales at your local Michaels or crafts stores to really upscale the village look if you are really into Christmas villages.
I pray that this Christmas is warm and delightful for you and this Christmas Home Tour 2020 home decorating ideas give you lots of inspiration and cheer!
