I enjoy decorating for the holidays, some years more than others. Thanksgiving and the Fall season kick off the holiday seasons where friends and family come together to give thanks for all that God has done for us each and every day.
Give praise to the Lord, proclaim his name; make known among the nations what he has done. Psalms 105:1 NIV
I told this story so many times, that my husband and I were a young couple and we could not give our children a whole lot. But I knew we had to purchase groceries with the little money and the food that we would get for the holidays from the local food bank. So I wanted to make the best meals for them with what we had. They enjoyed mealtime and still do!
In addition to creating these enjoyable meals, I loved to decorate ever since I was a little girl. I would imagine how I would decorate for the holidays in my own home once I became an adult.
Once my family started to eat and dash, I wanted to make them linger a little longer at the table and that is when I started creating Tablescapes. Tablescapes are just a form of decorating the entire table with a certain theme or style with beautiful dishes, linens, cutlery, and glassware.

I wanted to share with you how I created this year’s Thanksgiving tablescape and food that was prepared for my family. You can view the video down below to see clips of the food.
Pick A Style Or Theme
Every year a couple of weeks ahead of time, I begin to start thinking about what themes do I want to do for the holidays or any celebrations that are coming up. I may look for inspiration in several different ways if I am just simply stuck on what to do that year. Inspiration may come from a certain color, texture, overall feel, flowers, plate design, decor or etc.
This year the color navy was my starting point of inspiration and using the Fall/Thanksgiving theme plates that I did not get to use the year prior.
SHOP YOUR HOME
Once you have an idea of the items you want to go with for inspiration begin to look around your home for items that you can use for your tablescape.
I have love right now of rustic, farmhouse, chic design items. I wanted to incorporate those types of items on the tablescape as well. So shopping my home of coordinating items help bring the table together and save money in the process.
Custom DIYs
Custom DIYs for your tablescapes truly make your table unique. When you create your very own DIYs it is very hard to make the very same DIY as someone else has made. Because you have custom-made the DIY you will not be able to find it in the store and making it yourself the majority of the time is a lot cheaper.
One thing about custom DIYs you can change the color or texture of the item to suit your theme or style. Pumpkins are a very popular thing to paint during the Fall. It is also more affordable or convenient to re-paint them when all of your desired colors are snagged from Dollar Tree or your favorite Dollar Store.
Chalk, acrylic, or spray paint are my favorite to use when refreshing or updating decor items. I used navy blue acrylic paint from Walmart (.98 cents) to repaint this pumpkin from sage green, from its original color.

Plan Ahead
Plan ahead of what items that you may be looking for during the Fall/ Thanksgiving and Christmas season. Some of the stores (Dollar Tree and Target’s Bullseye Playground) that I enjoy shopping for have their Fall items out, as early/mid- Summer. The best items are gone first!
Make sure to look over the items that you may have had the previous years. Most of my items are packed away, so I have to look through my phone photos to remind myself of what I picked up or decorated with for the past seasons.
Also, set your tablescape up ahead of time so that you do not have to worry about setting it before your guest arrives. This will save you! Waiting until the last minute, especially during the holidays is not the best idea. We get overwhelmed with all of the holiday activities, work, shopping, visiting family, cleaning and so on….and what happens?!?! We simply say forget it! Now we are just too tired and throw something together at the last minute.
Set your table early! Also, it gives you time to enjoy it and look at it every time that you pass by. If you have only one seating area, have everything all together in the area ready to go.
