My seven-year-old loves everything about the solar system. He knows so much about outer space and enjoys learning about it. So I knew for his birthday he wanted a space party theme. This year, I remember being really busy and having little time to plan for it.
I love to get super creative with my boy’s birthday parties although at times my time may be limited with the planning or I may just feel like keeping it simple.
I want to share with you how I kept it simple with planning his birthday which saved me time. Although the space party birthday theme looked and made him feel super special (he is regardless!) I put it together in no time, with little effort.
Search Online
When I am short on time I always head to Amazon, of course, because they have just about anything that you are looking for. Amazon has so many space party ideas, learning aids, books, and activities for any girl or boy that loves outer space.
Because it was so many different things to choose from, I had to browse, add to the cart and later do the process of elimination. If I did not do this, I would have ended up with so many party items that I did not need.

A solar system birthday party is a perfect time to pull out all of the stops when it comes to DIYing the decorations and/or creating your own crafts together with friends and family at the party. This is a great idea to add to a birthday activity if you have time to plan it out.
If you are short on time purchasing blow-up planets and DIY solar system kits are a great way to go as well. Below are some that we purchased and my son has on display in his room months later.
Solar System Birthday Cake
My favorite go-to for ordering a birthday cake is at Walmart. Their cakes taste great, are affordable, convenient and they have many themes to choose from.
Usually, I go a few weeks before their birthday just to see what they have. I was really happy to see that they had a few solar system options for birthday cakes.
Coordinate Items With Your Space Theme
One of my favorite things to do when decorating for an at-home celebration is to use items that I have already to coordinate with the present theme that I am going for. For example, I used placemats, chargers, and plates to enhance the look of his birthday space theme party at home.
What I like the most about doing this, is that it looks like I took a lot of time and effort into creating and decorating for the party and it only took very little time.
If you have a world globe sitting on your shelf around your home that is something that would coordinate well with your space party theme. It is also great to have for your curious and creative child.
Special Touches
Banners and balloons always give parties that special touch! If you have balloons, a banner, and a cake, have yourself a party!
For his space birthday party, it was really hard to pick just one. The moon banner was really an eye-catcher but I knew he would get a kick out of seeing all of the planets, the sun, and their alignments with fun facts with the other banner.
We now have the banner with all of the planets and the sun on the wall in his room as decor.
Other special touches that you can do are add space theme foods and take a field trip to the Planetarium.
Unfortunately, we could not do this due to schedule conflicts but it is on our family’s Summer to-do lists.
Bringing a party theme of my children’s choice to life creates memories, excitement and so much fun for them to see. It doesn’t take a lot of effort especially when you are short on time. Purchase items a little at a time and really think about what will enhance your celebration. What items you can use past your celebration (double duty)?
A space birthday party theme is great for a girl or boy, timeless, educational that you and your child will enjoy. Have fun and think out of the box with DIYs, food recipe ideas, games and decor. Create those lifetime memories that your child will cherish for years to come.
