I really enjoy feeding my family! Making sure that they have what they need on a regular basis is very important to me. This was something that I always did! So recently I came across a video on what is a prepper pantry and why everyone should have one in case it was an emergency.
For many years my husband and I struggled with food security for our family. Some years we relied on our local food bank for monthly food pickups and holiday meals. If it was not for them, we would have little to eat.
I can not tell you how many times I had to shop with just $5, $10, $20, $50 for a day, a few days, or a week or two to feed our family of four at the time. And how many times I had to tell the cashier to put something back because I didn’t have enough money.
It was stressful but it became a skill that I was able to do time and time again.
So this is why building an emergency food prepper pantry is so important for me, my husband, and my family.
What Is An Prepper Pantry?
A prepper pantry is an overflow pantry of extra foods and items that your family normally eats and uses on a daily basis. This pantry is set alone pantry from your regular pantry. So when you run out of something in a regular pantry you and your family can just grab something out of the prepper pantry instead of running out of the grocery store often.
This pantry is also important if an emergency shall arise such as storms, natural disasters, illness, or job loss. Consider it as food insurance for yourself and your family.
How To Get Started
When I started my pantry, I honestly searched YouTube on what to purchase and as a guide. At the time it was several videos that were helpful but when it came time to create a list, I felt all over the place.
Here is a list that I created for you for Free here. What I learned when I headed to the grocery store is that I had to purchase what was best for my family and I. I also had to consider what was in my budget at the time. Everything that is in this Prepper pantry list, (above) please do not feel like you have to buy everything. This list is just a guide.
Buying, spending, and organizing; can be overwhelming! Just take a deep breath and breathe!! Do not look at other food pantries and feel like you have to do what they did. We all started with one can, a bag of flour, sugar, or rice. That is what it takes! Just one thing at a time, to make progress.
Because I felt all over the place, I created a Prepper Pantry Workbook to help guide you along the way.

Start with items and groceries that your family already eats and then you add items that will last for several years if it is properly stored.
How Much Do We Need?
At first, it may seem like you need EVERYTHING because you are just starting. But it doesn’t take long once you start building your prepper pantry. Food storage calculators are helpful once you start to build. It is best to have some sort of idea of how much is needed for your family’s food storage. I found this food storage calculator helpful.
You Can Do It!!
If you can go to the grocery store, you can build a prepper pantry. And I want to share with you how I built mine. I want to share with you how you can build your own!!
Below are the pictures of how our prepper pantry grew over time. I want them to be helpful, Hopeful, and inspiring to your journey. And know that no matter what your pocketbook may look like you can build your food prepper pantry for your family over time.
Step by step I want to help you build an emergency food & stockpile pantry.
I want to help you build food security for you and your family.
Help you build peace of mind!
On my channel, I have several videos on how I first built my pantry. Watch below one of those videos, when I just started our pantry journey.
Here was my next updated pantry down below. I was working steadily on our emergency stockpile & prepper pantry and it grew very quickly. There were times I wanted to give up and it seemed like I was not going to reach my goal to have it completely stocked by the Fall. Consistency is key!!
A couple of months later.
A couple more months later.
You can do this! A little over time adds up to a lot over time.
I have to say that doing this took sacrifice. We did not go on Summer trips, we stopped going to the barbershop, salon, and nail shop because of the pandemic. When we received our income taxes or stimulus we used a portion of that and stocked our pantry. And the list goes on!
See what you can skip on and use that money instead to help build your emergency food prepper pantry instead.
I can not tell you how many times I (we) was stressed that we didn’t have much to eat. Times that I sent my children to school just so they could eat. Or times I kept them home because we did not have the lunch money for them that day.
I want to share with you how you too can build your food security. Let’s start your journey together. Let’s Go! Stay tuned for more!!

I think people get so overwhelmed and see what other pantries look like they freeze. You’ve got to buy what you will eat. I never buy canned veggies but potatoes. That is us. I have both canned and dried beans. Very nice post.

Thank you, Cheryl! It is so easy to get overwhelmed by looking at other pantries. Little by little it adds up quickly, just like the stuff in our homes. Lol! Maybe one day I will get good at canning and I would not have to purchase so many canned goods. I have some dried beans, hoping to make a big pot soon.
